| We stayed at this Hotel Astoria on Bush Street, right next to the Chinatown Gate |
| And here's the Chinatown Gate itself. |

Streets of San Francisco are very steep indeed. After a few hours of walking around, your feet start burning and begging for rest - but they could just forget about that. | The main attraction of Russian Hill, Lombard Street is supposedly America's crookedest street. There is always traffic here - would you be able to resist the temptation? |

| We had a wonderful book - Frommer's Memorable Walks in San Francisco. It contains thoughtfully designed routes through the most beautiful areas of San Francisco. When you are there next time (and you should definitely go), buy this book (or borrow it from me) and follow the directions precisely - you won't regret it. |

Grace Cathedral on California Street. | | An unusual angle on Telegraph Hill and Coit tower. | View of Alkatraz from the top... | ...and foot of Telegraph Hill. |

Gay Pride Parade. San Francisco has a huge gay population and the parade is an annual happy event. The attraction is not the gay people per se, it is the wacky carnival atmosphere of the parade: dykes on bikes, men wearing tons of tacky make-up, spiky rainbow hair, piercings, tatooes etc. Plenty of tasteless joy for the openminded. | |

| Golden Gate Park - quiet and pretty botanical gardens a few minutes away from the Golden Gate Bridge. |

We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge (did not have time for a picture stop. It's ok - there are too many pictures of it already) and had a nice dinner at a restaurant in Sausalito, a little town just off the northern side of the bridge. |
